It is our pleasure to inform you that the International CDIO Council has accepted 2 new members of the CDIO Initiative in Asia:
1. Dalat University - Vietnam
About the school
Dalat University (DLU) is a multidisciplinary university that locates in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. DLU also locates in Lam Dong where Government of Vietnam endorses to develop the high-tech agriculture area. The area is home to 40 ethnic minority groups. Another task of our University is to offer the higher education for the ethnic people to help them to escape from poverty and settle lives on their own.
DLU is a non-profit public higher education institution. DLU is one of the biggest universities on the middle highland in Vietnam. DLU offers degrees at various level, typically including Bachelor, Master, and PhD degrees for more than thirty majors including engineer, sciences, and social sciences. There are 502 staff and faculty members with approximately 13,000 of students in total. Up to now, Dalat University Society is increasingly high and attracts students from Viet Nam, Lao, Angola, and Korea.
What goals do you hope to achieve by becoming a CDIO Member?
- When joining the CDIO Initiative, we hope to share, learn the experience and receive support in implementing CDIO framework. Based on that, our students won’t be “strangers” in the real-life working where the employers have diverse requirements. The faculty has apllied the CDIO education philosophy and the CDIO syllabus to improve teaching ability and learning quality We also can share our experiments with the universities that want to join the CDIO Initiative. We have a passion of organizing the CDIO alliance of Vietnam Universities as a part of Asian CDIO community, since then we can spread the CDIO philosophy to every University in Vietnam to improve our education quality. We believe that “Power is gain from sharing knowledge, not hoarding it”.
2. Politeknik Ungku Omar - Malaysia
About the school
Politeknik Ungku Omar (PUO) was established in 1969 by the Ministry of Education of Malaysia with the support and assistance of UNESCO. The main role of PUO is to produce trained personnel in the fields of Engineering, Business and Information & Communication Technology. The programs of study are offered at the level of diploma to holders of the Malaysian Certificate of Education (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia / SPM) and candidates who possess certificates from polytechnics and community colleges. The degree and advanced diploma programs are offered to polytechnic diploma holders. The total number of programs offered are 25. The current total student enrollment is 6950 (On Campus – 5740 and Industrial Training - 1210); whilst the current number of faculty is 618 full time academics and a staff of 147 non-academics.
What goals do you hope to achieve by becoming a CDIO Member?
- It is our aspirations that our graduates are ready for the job market, mobile globally, critical and creative, entrepreneurial, holistic and balanced. CDIO based education can lead us to a creation and operation in an innovative learning and teaching approach of the 21st Century focusing on products, processes and systems that will help us to achieve the educational challenges of the Eleventh Malaysia Plan (2016 – 2020) in:
- Strengthening the Governance of the TVET
- Enhancing TVET Programme Quality and Delivery
- Enhancing TVET Branding To Increase Its Attractiveness
